What is Pelvic Sexual Physical Therapy?

In our specialized setting, our client’s Physical Therapy experience will include a comprehensive evaluation of skeletal alignment, joint movement, scar tissue, adhesions, muscle strength, muscle length, and muscle tension or “tone”. The Examination will investigate these areas for dysfunction, imbalance and pain triggers. Because of the specialized setting, much of this examination will be of internal pelvic structures, and instrumentation will be used to collect a portion of the data.

Next is treatment planning, an integral part of which is the exploration of our client’s desired therapeutic results. When the areas needing attention are determined, and the desired therapeutic results are identified, a customized treatment is designed.

A customized pelvic floor Physical Therapy treatment plan may include, but is not limited to, strengthening exercises, relaxation exercises, stretching, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, pain relief modalities, and a home program.

Muscle strengthening exercises focus on restoring muscle power and balance from the inside out. The areas most often involved are pelvic floor, hips, and core. Detailed attention is given to body alignment and correct technique. EMG Biofeedback, muscle stimulation and resistance equipment may be needed to enhance the effect of the exercises.
